A simple intention, expressed with a few words or a simple sentence, I call a "theme". This theme is what organizes the drawing between the partners. There can be two or more people engaging in this drawn dialog. Usually four or five people is a maximum number (in four of the five modes or techniques of Relational Drawing). The drawing shown on this page is the initial expression of a theme, in this case, by one of the two drawing partners in this dialog. There is a five word written theme on the back of the paper, but this sentence is not known to the partner "receiving" the theme. The person receiving the theme engages with what you see in this first drawing. She then adds or "contributes" to the drawing with the second in the sequence of this conversation.
